Inspiring Speakers Who Lifted the Room

Judge Larry Archie

Judge Archie shared a heartfelt and motivating message about the importance of community support, dignity, and opportunity for every person. His words encouraged all of us to continue walking alongside those who are working to rebuild their lives.

City Council Member Goldie Wells

City Council Member Wells shared her passion for empowering the community and reminded us that real change begins with compassion and action. Her presence and wisdom added so much meaning to the evening.

In Honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month October,2025

Domestic violence impacts millions of people globally every hour of the day, on an annual basis. The sad thing is that it is increasing as it is being perpetrated from one generation to the next due to a lack of knowledge and wisdom. Domestic violence/sexual abuse is an over-arching term for brutality, and manipulation. It asserts dominance and control over another in an intimate and family relationships. It can take on many forms: physical, emotional, psychological, sexual assault, using children, and the list goes on. We may think we know how to navigate life adequately, however; bio-psycho-social worldviews affirm the opposite when it comes to understanding the complexities of human nature. We can have knowledge without wisdom, for there are many unwise people making decisions for our lives. However, we need God’s wisdom and understanding to make sound judgments, and discern good from bad especially in this day and time.
In the vernacular we understand wisdom as: knowledge, insight, factual information, shrewdness, life experience and discerning of human nature.
Now, James who gives us the playbook on obtaining wisdom says: if you lack wisdom ask God for it, and He will give you the answers, that’s it, ask God! James 5:1.
Our most brilliant minds of yesterday, and of today are still finite minds, and can only go so far in obtaining wisdom and knowledge, and how to apply it. To go further they must seek The Higher Power. God is infinite, and unbound, He knows every relevant, imaginable fact and its outcome. God can give you what is needed in any situation in a nano-second!
Therefore, God Who is Omniscient-All knowing of everyone on the globe and in the universe and the outcome of every event, if we don’t know the answer ask Him. Wisdom is for all people it will work for anyone who use it. In these days of deception, trickery, and scams, where evil people are out to defraud, swindle, and cheat by any means possible, we are going to need divine wisdom, and knowledge in how to conduct our affairs. Most of the time we have to do our own fact check, and deep dive to get to the heart of the matter, and make sure it’s not deceit, especially now, that AI is seemingly taking over.
Wisdom extends to all areas of our lives: natural, spiritual, scientific, political, social, marital, and the list goes on. The theme Wisdom was given by the Lord. He knows that not only I, but the majority of us need it. This world is becoming more lawless, malicious, and depraved than ever before, and we are no match for it. He says we are to come out from among them and be separated from it’s system. Everything originates from God the Father. Period. No matter how it is: re-packaged, re-arranged, filter out, or fluffed up, all wisdom and all knowledge is from God. He even gives us the ability to understand that which He has given us. The take away is to asked Jesus to come into your life and save you from your sin-now that’s Wisdom! Romans 10:9,10. B. McGibboney

WHAT IS SEX TRAFFICKING?

Sex trafficking is to deal or trade in something illegal. Sex trafficking is human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation, forced labor, or any other illegal services.

A working definition of sex trafficking is a crime which involves exploitation [taking advantage ] of someone for the purpose of involuntary labor or commercial sex act through the use of force, fraud, or coercion.

We understand that sexual abuse/trafficking is not a new phenomenon. The names have changed, evolved so to speak, to match the times but, women and children have been exploited since before biblical times and in every culture of the world.

In this country sexual abuse /rape goes far back as 1492 in the founding of America by Christopher Columbus.

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek…. To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD…. To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness…the planting of the LORD, that He might be glorified.” Isaiah 61: 1-3.

Crucial Information for Life’s Experiences

Life experiences can be found in both positive, negative, successes and failures of life.

Life experiences implies that you get something from the experiences that would transform or renew your thinking or character.

We all want to succeed in our life’s venture whatever it is. There is no blueprint, or one size fits all for our experiences. Our encounters in life are as wide and varied as there are people. One may experience one thing and shrug it off. While another may experience the same type thing and it becomes life shattering for them.

Students away from home for the first time, or people in general may encounter a snag, an obstacle(s) in their social setting. They may encounter sexual harassment by a friend, peer pressure from organizations, sexual abuse/ date rape, domestic violence or any number of behaviors that could negatively affect their intellectual, family, academic, professional, and social life. It is at this point that they may want to seek professional help.

We have with us today educated, trained experts in their fields to give you crucial and valuable information for your challenging life experiences.

Our name Renewal Center for Battered Women Ministries may be mis-leading to some people. Therefore, we would like to clarify we are NOT a shelter.

Mission Statement

Renewal Center for Battered Women Ministries is dedicated to serve clients by helping to remove distress of domestic violence through education, counseling, guidance, and assistance in making better life choices through biblical life principles and practical application.

Our Purpose

Our purpose for this organization is to help people to think seriously about domestic violence and its effect on them and their posterity. We want people to have a change of mind about living in an abusive and dysfunctional environment or relationship. We endeavor to enlighten, empower, and encourage the client. We offer: education to the family on abuse, sexual violence, life coaching and support, workshops, and catharsis support group. We assist the families in providing school supplies and clothing for minor children in the home.

We sponsor an Event where we spotlight a survivor of domestic violence who is willing to tell her story of how her life has been changed from being a victim to becoming victorious by incorporating biblical life principles and practical applications.

In reality, there is domestic violence/ domestic abuse of some sort going on every minute of every hour, of every day, of every week, of every month. Domestic violence is ongoing.

On an average 24 people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in the U.S. That is more than 12 million women and men over a year! A few Myths and Realities of Domestic Violence

Myth: This kind of abuse is restricted to poorly educated families from lower socio-economic backgrounds.

Reality: Abuse is found in all socio-economic backgrounds. An unusually high incidence is found among police, physicians, and men in the helping professions. Several studies show a high correlation between increased physical abuse and increased form an education among violent men.

Myth: Intimate partners have always fought. It is natural and therefore cannot be that bad.

Reality: According to statistics the home, not the streets are the “nursery school of violence”. At least 85% of the men in prison grew up in a violent home. To eliminate violence in society, we must first eliminate violence in the home.

Myth: A little slap never hurt anyone.

Reality: The distinguishing feature of abuse is that is a pattern of coercive controls that may or may not include physical violence, but is characterized by its severity and intensity. It can last many years, and physical injuries can range from a black eye to broken bones. Over a third of the murders in this country occur when one family member kills another. Another result is a loss of self-esteem and reduced feeling of self-worth and self-confidence.

Myth: Victims of abuse are masochistic and enjoy it. Otherwise, they would not stay.

Realty: Victims of abuse may be reluctant to leave for a complex set of reasons including safety, shame, fear, lack of money, or concern for children. When a victim does leave, it does not guarantee that the beatings will stop. A perpetrator of abuse will often go to great lengths to trace their spouse or partner down, in order to continue the abuse. In fact, victims of abuse are more at risk for fatal injury at the hands of their abuser after they leave.

Myth: Women batter their husbands.

Reality: Yes, women do batter. Figures indicate that there is one abused husband for every ten abused wives. The difference lies in the extent of the violence. Women receive the far greater physical injury than men do.

So, where did all this violence come from? The thumbnail version:

The nature of violence is well entrenched in all cultures of the world, and it has been since the beginning of time. As you can see from the above scripture, violence actually began in heaven by Lucifer. Therefore, it is not just a social phenomenatal that presents itself in certain social contexts, but it pervasive, demonic and spiritual in nature. It is meant to destroy people, marriages, and the family in particular. Hence, it must be addressed by spiritual means.

It seems that domestic violence/abuse is only spotlighted once a year. Yearly, attention is brought to victims of abuse and how advocates can stop domestic violence in the home, office, or other settings. Domestic violence is ongoing all over the world. During this time of COVID-19, victims are especially vulnerable, being in close quarters with their abusers for long periods of time, there, things can get a little touchy!

We may not want to think about it, or even believe it, but reality is domestic violence of some sort is going on every minute of every hour, of every day, of every week, of every month all over the world.

A Memorial Day Salute with a Personal Flare

Our national anthem reminds us of the struggles in blood, sweat and tears that members of our families have diligently fought and died for. We would like to say thanks to all of those who have given their lives that we may be free.

Whenever I look at war movies, I can’t help but think of my father who is with the Lord now. We would sit for hours watching war movies. I would ask questions and he would answer slow and deliberate as if reliving some of the action that he had experience. One particular questions I was intrigued about was when he was in the Korean War. He was a paratrooper or parachutist. Dad I said, how could you jump out of a plane weren’t you afraid? He would say, Dee, that was my nickname, you see, you train long and hard for those type missions. And if you didn’t jump you were pushed out. And he would throw back his head and laugh. I wondered if he was serious or just teasing me.

Maybe you had times like that with your loved ones. Even though some may be gone now, but their memories live on. Many of our fathers, grandfathers, great-grand fathers served in the Armed Forces protecting this soil we love so much and we thank them.

Let us pause… and take a moment to reflect on what would ” the land of the free and the home of the brave “ be like today if many had not given the ultimate sacrifice for it? As we look back to the time when those lyrics were penned the nation was shrouded over in slavery, now it’s all our national anthem. It has evolved to mean all men and women of this country to be free, but freedom comes with a price, a very high price-their lives.

We give thanks to God the Father who has permitted such brave men and women to stand up and conquer in His Name. Let us give them the respect and honor due them on this Memorial Day.
